If You Care about Free Speech...

~2,000 'No Kings' protests planned this Saturday across the US

Please excuse this unusual Writer’s Guide post, and I hope it lands in the spirit intended—for love of country.

As a writer, I know you care about freedom of speech. If you happen to be a writer in America, you know free speech is in jeopardy, along with many of the other rights we are guaranteed by our constitution.

I am an American, and I love my country. That’s why Saturday I will be joining others in a local version of one of the ~2,000 No Kings protests planned around the country. I don’t wish to politicize this newsletter, and I’m not what you’d call a political activist, so I won’t drone on.

But I no longer see silence as a historically rational option. If you live here, and you care about our democracy, I would encourage you to see if there’s an event near you, or otherwise contemplate what you might do to be heard.
